GREG HUTCHINSON - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

For over 15 years I have had the privilege of serving with Youth For Christ. I enjoy being a part of a team that is deeply concerned about non-Christian youth. Youth for Christ has always allowed our staff and volunteers to serve in their gifted or passionate areas of ministry. We are a ministry that is on the cutting edge as we are meeting youth where they are and not based on traditional methods or programs. It is because of these reasons that I am excited about how I can make an impact in our organization.

LORI DURKSEN - CAMPUS LIFE DIRECTOR

When I was new to high school, I got that opportunity to get involved with Campus Life in my high school. It was on a ski trip during teacher's convention that God began to reveal the need I had for Him. Getting involved in the weekly clubs and building relationships with the Campus Life staff, volunteers and other students, not only made me feel accepted, it gave me a safe place to belong and showed me how much God loves me.

What junior or senior high school student in the city of Calgary doesn't deal with stuff like drugs, violence, depression, low self-esteem, relationship problems and so many more day-to-day issues? It breaks my heart to think that there are young people out there who have no one to listen to them or care. Everybody has someone who influences them! I want to be a positive influence in the lives of as many young people as I can.

MARIA PETROU - STREETLIGHT DIRECTOR


When I first encountered StreetLight, I had the typical attitude towards street kids that I think most people have. I figured that street kids were just lazy, rebellious, looked ridiculous and smelled bad. God has since then changed my view and my heart towards them. During my first night, I met street kids and heard their seemingly unbelievable stories. My heart broke. These street kids had endured the most horrific abuse and young girls who hadn't even hit puberty were being forced to sell their bodies for sex. Even though I didn't have a clue as to what to do or any street experience, I knew God was calling me to this ministry.

I volunteered with StreetLight for a couple of years and then had the privilege to join the YFC staff. Over the years, I have seen the miraculous ways in which the Lord has used me, my staff and volunteers to impact the lives of street kids for the better. I remain with this ministry because it is a place where I see God at work. The lives that are changed through this ministry and the ways in which they are changed are amazing!

ELLEN NOBEL - STREETLIGHT STAFF & KERAMIKO COOORDINATOR

One day, the Lord took my heart and broke it for our street kids. He showed me that behind the rough exterior of spikes and tattoos and pounds of facial hardware was a child who was desperate for love. My age allows me to relate to these kids in a unique way. I can look them in the eye and, with the love 'that only a mother can have', I can tell them that they are special. I can hug them with a mother's hug. Many of our kids have sobbed their grief onto my shoulders. Many have thrived because of the encouragement I have offered due God's grace in my life. I am blessed to be a mom to so many who have never known one.

I joined the Youth for Christ ministry in 1993 and became a part of Worth Unlimited. This is a youth employment program where I have the privilege to work alongside teens and teach them basic job skills and positive work ethics.

I'm glad to be a part of a team that helps youth develop positive attitudes while gaining work experience. My heart goes out to disadvantaged youth and my goal is to help them build self worth and learn that their real worth in in God's eyes are unlimited.

KEVIN MEIGH - WORTH UNLIMITED SHOP FOREMAN

I am a volunteer at StreetLight as well as working with Worth Unlimited as a mechanic. I came from a background of driving semi for about 13 years. I have always asked God for an opportunity to be in a ministry position where I could work with youth and am so thankful that God has answered my prayers.

My goal is to train the Worth Unlimited youth in the mechanical trade and am thrilled to share with them at the same time - how God touches our lives in all areas. I am here as a part of this team - excited to watch God continue to work in my life and to allow me to be a part of what His is doing in the lives of our youth here at Worth Unlimited.

BERNIE ADAM - YOUTH GUIDANCE DIRECTOR

I have come to believe and understand that my purpose and calling in life is mentorship. The Great Commission reads "Go therefore and make disciples ..." Matthew 28:19 and this for me, can be done in the form of discipleship and mentorship. My heart is to mentor youth who are in need of relational support. So many of our youth haven't had a sufficient role model in their lives, and those roles models have not been there or they have been a steady stream of broken promises and disappointments. James 1:27 says "to look after the orphan and widows in their distress". Our youth have been orphaned and most of the single parents are in some form of stress and distress. I feel that there is a call to rise up and meet some of the needs of these youth so that their lives can be changed and impacted by our practically serving of the love of Christ.

JEREL PETERS - PONOKA SATELLITE STAFF

I work part-time with a youth group in the Ponoka area and I started with YFC in the fall of 2003. God opened the door for me to work part-time with the students in the Ponoka High School and community. It is so exciting to be part of a ministry that allows us to take the truth of God’s Word into a public high school. It is encouraging to see non-Christian youth come out to events where they are exposed to the love of God. Through the services in the high school, weekly clubs, and relationships with the students I hope to challenge and encourage them to live out loud for God!

JAKE SCHELLENGBERG - CENTRAL ALBERTA SATELLITE STAFF

I have been with the ministry of YFC since the fall of 2002. There was a huge desire on my heart to return to youth ministry after a 2 year hiatus and God opened the door with YFC. It has been a great ride. God has been faithful beyond my imagination, with meeting our needs every day. God continues to teach me about dependence and obedience. When we depend on and obey Him, He is always faithful.

It is so exciting to be a part of an organization that is involved in mobilizing the gospel of Christ. We don't wait for them to come to us, but we go to them. There are so many students that would not even think about darkening the door way of a church and it is exciting to go and be a part of their world where they are comfortable. Taking the time to show them that they have unlimited potential and a God that will meet them where they are at!
